Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 4, 2008, 5:36 AM
So I've had my final lecture at uni of my degree. One more assignment to do and I've finished my degree! Then I shall be Monica Runiewicz BASci (That's Bachelor of Arts and Sciences).

I don't know whether wanting to do another degree is a smart or a stupid idea :P I love learning and uni, I just hate exams. It'll also be a comittment of another 4 years since I want to do pharmacy which does in a way come off my biochemistry major. The other course I would consider doing would be psychology. But yes, at the same time, I like working full time and having money, which will stop again if I start another degree. Which will suck.

In other news, there are no other news.

I work at the Home Depot, a home improvement store, and I keep trying to convince my manager that we should start selling umbrellas.

There have been dozens of times this month where the rain would be so bad, people would live up at the exit, waiting for the rain to stop so they can leave.

We could have made thousands!

Yeah, it was rainy here a couple of weeks ago. And unpredictable. Rain, sun, clouds, more sun, more rain all in one day. Couldn't guess whether to take an umbrella to work or not simply by looking at the weather in the morning.

Over here, it's been rain city. RAIN. ALL THE TIME.

I don't really mind, but it's kind of strange, we hardly get rain ever. I don't really mind, it keeps it from getting stupidly humid and such.

Yeah, fair call.

But yes, the weather has made a liar out of me. We've been getting snow in places we don't normally get it for the past week or two. I only had to drive an hour out of Canberra to play in several inches of the stuff. Pictures appearing in a tick...

We've got three of the out the window types running in our house, two small and one large for the downstairs. Mine is right beside my face while I sleep :)

And I don't know why the drinking/tobacco/gambling age is 19. 18 is when we get to vote, and then a year later, we get a much more fun civil rights upgrade. I didn't start drinking until I was twenty, so I never noticed.

How odd. 19 seems like a pretty random number to me. It's 18 here by the way.

But yes, air conditioning is good. But it doesn't work when you're walking to the car or stuff like that where you're outside. Plus you need good air con units. My dad's old place had that through the wall sort of deal that has the other side poke outside. Air con of the 90s. It doesn't work in summer cause the unit itself overheats once the temp goes above the high 30s. Which was often where he lived.

True, but with the hot weather, there are also the beaches and the air conditioning.

As for the drinking age? Nineteen will get you alcohol-enabled, which is fine by me :D

The fruity alcohol will do me. Tropical to me says "hotter than home" and I'm not too keen on that idea :P

On the note of alcohol, what's the legal drinking age in Canadia?

~oolau:iconoolau: Aug 4, 2008, 2:04:15 PM
Agreed. Though I do wish I lived in a place perhaps a bit more... tropical.

With palm trees, and fruity alcohol. And oceans.

Definately with a hammock.

Hehehe...eh... ;)

Well, the western world isn't all bad. I can think of much worse places and situations that I could be in. Paying for my glasses ain't the end of the world.

Yeah, eh. Supposedly we say "Eh." all the time, eh.

It's pretty annoying, eh?

Agreed on the health care, that's pretty much how it is here, too.

Go socialism :)

Monica is a pretty common name in a lot of countries I think.

And you are very welcome!

Yeah, I think the health care system is quite similar to here too :P
Doctors and optometrists visits and x-rays, ultrasounds and whatnot are free, but dental work and glasses themselves cost cashola. As for corruption of nature, Sydney is pretty scungy, however I would imagine that steel mills would be worse.

As for saying "eh?" is that something that Canadians are said to say? Cause I haven't heard that one.

We do INDEED sell stuff with maple leaves on it at souvenir shops :)

Cold winters, pretty hot summers, free-ish health care, lots of taxes. I live right near lake Ontario, so we've got lots of beaches and stuff, but they've all sort of been corrupted by one hundred and fifty years of steel mills :P

That said, said steel mills are awesome to take photos in :D

We also don't usually say "Eh?" :P

It's not that different to Canada I imagine. Except for the accent, and the fact that souvenir stores sell plush koalas and kangaroos and didgeridoos rather than stuff with maple leaves or whatever you guys sell :P

Winters are milder, summers are hotter. Lots of beaches cause most cities are either on the coast or within a couple of hours drive of the coast. Uhhhm... Not as many crocodiles as you may think ;) They only live in wetlands, and most of Aust has been in drought for the past few years. Water restrictions and all.

We don't really say "G'Day" as a greeting, unless we're doing it for shits and giggles. That's about it :P

Makes perfect sense to me.

I know rather little about austrailia, save from crocodile dundee and the olympics a few years back :P

What's it like?

I thought it had more too. Unless wiki lies...

But yes, I say Canadia because of the word Canadian. If you're Austrlian you come from Australia, so if you're Canadian you come from Canadia!

Only a population of 21 million?!?!? I thought there were more.

Yeah, sometimes we call ourselves Canadia, or other such silly names. Other countries get to end in an "-ia" so why can't we?
